Project Description:
The complexity of this 831,327 sq. ft. replacement hospital, combined with a highly aggressive schedule, required creative solutions to be successful. The fact that the hospital had to be open by January 2015 drove the GC, Mortenson, to determine how to accelerate construction while maintaining the highest quality standards. The traditional on-site linear approach would have resulted in a 36-month schedule; however, an overall 18% schedule compression was required to deliver in just 29.5 months. Prefabrication quickly became the solution. Prefabrication allowed several building elements to be built off-site. A Mortenson project study attributed the bathroom pods with a $3.1 million direct cost savings.
