The Florida Atlantic University Innovation Village involved the development of two apartment buildings, covering a total area of 489,000 square feet and accommodating 1,216 beds for upper-level and graduate students.

Project Description

Construction for the Innovation Village began successfully in March 2010, allowing the first students to move in by late July 2011. This endeavor was driven by a strict timeline to accommodate students before the 2011-2012 academic year. In their pursuit of this ambitious goal, Balfour Beatty employed SurePods bathroom pods, which proved instrumental in meeting the demanding schedule and facilitating the students’ return to school.

The utilization of prefabricated bathrooms by SurePods represented a novel approach to constructing the dorms. This innovation was complemented using tunnel-formed concrete superstructures and site-cast facade panels as integral components of the construction process. The combination of these advanced techniques ensured the project's timely completion and the delivery of high-quality living spaces for the students.
