Project Description
Hotel Polaris at the U.S. Air Force Academy is a 317,000 sq. ft. campus situated along the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Paying tribute to its historic location, USAFA Hotel is the only hotel in the country equipped with dual flight simulators.
In this groundbreaking project, SurePods constructed a full-scale mock-up featuring two rooms and two bathrooms, showcasing both a bathroom pod and a stick built bathroom. The goal was to meticulously examine the finished workmanship and quality, draw comparisons between the conventional build and the pod bathroom, and address potential coordination concerns.
Prior to being transported to Aurora, Colorado the mock-up underwent thorough reviews by the design team, owner group and GC in Phoenix. This project boasts a unique hybrid team consisting of DPR, SurePods and GE Johnson craft, collaborating in the loading and placement of the pods.
The project also saw remarkable successes when the owner group supplied the vanities and counter tops for the pods, which were sent directly to the SurePods facility. During the installation of the vanity tops, the production and quality control teams detected scratches on some of them. However, swift action was taken by involving the owner group, finding a suitable repair solution/company and executing the necessary fixes at the plant, all without disrupting production or deliveries.
